Fleas and Common Parasites For Cats
- Fleas are detectable through black specks in the cat’s coat and persistent scratching
- Ticks appear as small, blue-gray swellings. Dab ticks with alcohol and remove with tweezers. Protect cat with flea and tick products.
- Ear mites cause scratching and waxy brown buildup. Treatment includes cleaning the ear and use of ear drops.
- Roundworms, hookworms and threadworms can cause diarrhea and weight loss. See a veterinarian for
deworming.
- Tapeworms can show in eggs stuck to the underside of a cat’s tail. See a veterinarian for
deworming, and use flea control, as fleas may be intermediate hosts.
