Feeding Your Cat

  • Milk may cause diarrhea..be cautious.

  • Always keep fresh water in your cat’s dish.

  • Never feed chocolate, onions, raw fish, poultry or eggs, bones or food intended for our animals.

  • Give nursing mothers extra food.

  • Kittens start sampling canned or moistened dry food at three weeks.

Litter

  • Types of boxes include disposable, covered, self-cleaning and flushing.

  • Types of litter include clay, clumping, wood-based natural and reusable.

  • Clean boxes daily with a plastic scoop.

  • Place litter box in a semi-private area, away from food dishes.

Cat Carrier

  • Use a carrier that is easy to disinfect or clean. Put towel or newspaper in bottom.

  • Do not leave a cat unattended in a hot car, or allow it out of its carrier while driving.

Play

  • Good diversions include catnip toys, feathers, fuzzy mice and balls. Activities include hide-and-seek and pulling a mouse or feather on a string.

  • Leaving toys unsupervised increases the possibility of a cat swallowing string.
